In 1999 I was presented with a simple business opportunity in the UK, where I was working then. I was working long hours for one company in order to pay most of my bills. And I was working weekends for another company in order to pay the rest of my bills. On top of this, I was training as a complementary therapist in order at the very least to replace the part-time job and earn more per hour. This was so I could afford to take a day off each week. But, even though I was desperate, I ignored this business opportunity. Why? Because I thought that it had to be really complicated. I thought I would have to have capital to do it. I thought it would be expensive and take long to set up. After all, logically, if it is that good, surely it would take a lot of time and money to set up.

I kept training and took very good courses in complementary therapy. And still, in 2002, when I finally graduated with very worthy diplomas, I was still really struggling to succeed in my own part-time business.

In 2003, I sold everything I had – even my home - and went into business for myself full-time. I was spending more money than I was earning and any money I had was fast disappearing. Life was hard.

And in 2003, this same business opportunity came up again. I was taught Indian Head Massage and asked to take it up as part of my new career. I was told it would net me at least R5000 working 2 days a month EASY, and that I could take it further if I wanted. Again, I ignored this opportunity. As a matter of fact, I decided not to practice Indian Head Massage at all. Why? Because it was taught in half a day. That is why. I was ashamed of it. I thought surely it cannot be good; surely it cannot be safe; surely nobody would respect me anymore if I did it. After all, I had studied for years for my other therapies. I had paid many thousands for my other skills. I had slaved over a thesis, countless case studies, and passed several exams. How could an Indian Head Massage certificate earned in half a day be any good?

So I chose to completely ignore this business opportunity. Yet again.

Later on, still in the UK, I was working in a few clinics, business was gradually getting better, but still not where it needed to be. It was then that I started contacting corporates about my therapies for their staff. Imagine my shock when most of them said “No thank you, we have a lovely person who comes and does Indian Head Massage for us”! Even when I thought they were not “qualified enough” or “good enough”. I even approached government bodies for my therapies for their staff, and even they said “No thank you, we have someone doing Indian Head Massage”!

For a while, I even campaigned to try and stop what I perceived was this great wrong - a massage course in a day!

Finally, business started getting better, and I opened the first clinic in the UK that was entirely my own. I had several therapists working with me in my clinic, and then I found out. That those that had Indian Head Massage in their repertoire did the best. They brought in good money. They earned well.

To publicize my clinic, I went to corporate networking events. There I met several successful business people. They made excellent money, selling Indian Head Massage services to large corporations, at exhibitions, and events. Even government departments. And all this after just a half-day training! Finally, my eyes were opened, and I heard the message loud and clear.

And another thing happened. My own daughter got the same opportunity to do Indian Head Massage. She took a one-day course and started making money with it immediately. She is a shrewd investor, with investments in property, as well as worthwhile diplomas in therapeutic techniques. And she still chooses to use her one-day Indian Head Massage course as an important part of her full-time successful business. Then I finally got it. It finally sunk in.
