5 Commonly Overlooked Drivers of Phobia

A phobia can be a source of terror, amusement, and embarrassment. Sometimes all three at once, even to the phobic themselves.

Phobias range from the ridiculous to the downright dangerous. At the lighter end of the scale, there is the fear of bananas. And we all know someone who travels across land and sea for miles and kilometres rather than get on a short plane ride. However, it must be nerve-wracking to check inside your cornflake packet every morning just in case there is a spider inside. Or to be gripped with terror every time the cat brings a mouse in. For some, the cat itself is an object of terror. On the other end of the scale, we have the fear of swallowing, which naturally can have serious consequences.

Most phobics either find a way to cope or find treatment. Maybe you have been for phobia treatment with little or no headway. Or perhaps you or yours would like to be assured of a better result from the word go. With this in mind, here are the five commonly overlooked drivers of a phobia.

1.Questioning the ability of being free from this fear. This has more to do with the next three reasons than it has to do with capability.
2.Feeling that it is your role in life to carry some discomfort. For example, the unconscious mind may be thinking “this is the cross I have to bear in life” or “my mother always shouted at my sister and was good to me, so I have to carry some other pain”.
3.Feeling that it is unsafe to let go of this fear. The unconscious mind may be saying “if I let go of this fear, what will I have to face?” This is when the phobia is a symptom of something much deeper.
4.Feeling that one is not worthy of being free from this fear. The conscious mind may wish to be free from the fear. The unconscious mind may be saying things like “I wasn’t worthy of my mother’s love” or “my father abandoned us, so I wasn’t worthy of him staying” or even “I was abused because I was bad.”
5.Strangely enough, for some, a phobia provides a stimulation and an interest. And so, some phobics are in a way addicted to the fear.

Whilst these are on the heavier side of healing stubborn phobias, they point the way to the solution. Once we know what the problem is, then we can start solving it. There are many treatments for phobia, with varying degrees of success. As a complementary therapist, I used to deal with phobia with hypnotherapy. Now this is OK for a small and simple phobia. And I respect your experience if you have found peace through hypnosis. However, it has been my experience that a more complex phobia needs an energy therapy element to help dislodge it. EFT is great at removing phobias. If you do not like EFT, then Reiki or an energy healing meditation can be a great help. And whatever path you take to freedom, I wish you healing and peace.

7 Top Reasons Why Your Phobia Won’t Go Away

A phobia is an over-the-top fear of a particular thing and is the most common form of what is called an anxiety disorder. Faced with the object of fear, the phobic experiences feelings ranging from mild fear to absolute terror. A pounding heart, wet palms, shaking arms, wobbly legs, and nausea are but a few of the feelings reported.

Naturally, a phobic would like to be rid of the phobia as soon as possible. Treatments include CBT, hypnotherapy, NLP, and EFT.

More and more evidence is now pointing to EFT as the best way to be free from a phobia. And through my fellow EFT practitioners, I was introduced the the marvelous concept of the Law of Attraction. In a nutshell, it says that we manifest what we think. So if we are thinking of fear, we feel fear. The Law of Attraction makes a great deal of sense and seems to be one of the most sensible ideas in self-growth and personal development.

If you or someone you care about are struggling to shake off a phobia, from the wisdom of the Law of Attraction, here are the 7 top reasons why. And when you know why, you have key to the way forward.

1. Facing your fear by force. Fear is a negative thing, and facing it by force reinforces the negative, every time it is faced.

2. Ignoring your fear. By ignoring the fear, again, what is on your mind? Fear.

3. Fearing the fear. This time, we have not one, but two fears on our minds; a double-whammy.

4. Unrelated fears from the past locked away in the energy system of your body. By having these perhaps long-forgotten fears in your body, your mind manifests the fears as a phobia.

5. Thinking of the object of fear instead of feeling the beauty of the situation. For example a mouse-phobic considers foremost the feared aspects rather than how the mouse is friendly and cute.

6. Identifying as the person who reacts with this fear. Our identity is a strongly-held concept, and thinking that you are the person with the phobia keeps you as the person with the phobia.

7. A common bond with loved ones who also have this fear. If a bond with a loved one is thought to be the phobia, then this thought will continue to manifest the phobia.

OK, so that is the why. Now you just need the how. All of the above can be used with whatever treatment you or yours choose. You can write down a list of situations or feelings that the 7 reasons bring up for you. Then you can just hand these to your chosen practitioner or simply use them as a basis for EFT on yourself. I saw this on Healthy Pages news online. And I thought it makes a lot of sense.

Almost every day in my work, I help people with physical manifestations of buried emotions and addictions to cope with buried emotions. So it now makes perfect sense to me that happiness levels stay the same. We are designed, or have evolved, to adapt to the conditions of our lives. And so we unconsciously find ways to adapt and keep our happiness levels the same.

The report does point out that long-term unemployment was an exception to the rule. In other words, people who are long-term unemployed are generally less happy than those in regular employment. I don’t think this means that happiness depends on having a job. Of course, if you don’t have enough money to eat and feed your family, that is a recipe for unhappiness for sure. However, anyone whose physical or mental health means they cannot work is usually unhappy too.

So basically, my conclusion is that if you have enough money coming in and are in reasonable mental and physical health, you can always find a way to be happy.
